A correct, safe and enjoyable interaction between man and horse.
Equine welfare and the correct, safe, and enjoyable interaction between humans and horses are central to sustainable equestrian sports. Although there is already a substantial body of well-founded knowledge, the practical application of this knowledge (and skills) often lags behind. The Equine Welfare Certificate (PWB) is an initiative of the Foundation for Riding Competence for Riders and Drivers (SRR) and is being developed by the applied research group Sustainable Horse Husbandry and Equestrian Sports at Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences.
The PWB aims to provide a large group of equine enthusiasts with well-founded (basic) knowledge and skills in horse care, riding, and interaction, tailored to their needs, wishes, and ambitions. Subsequently, we want to guide them in applying this knowledge and skills in their daily, relevant practice.
With the new Equine Welfare Certificate, the SRR addresses the frequently expressed need of equine enthusiasts for more knowledge and skills regarding the correct handling, care, and riding of horses. Knowing that many equine enthusiasts are not affiliated with any organisation, the PWB offers this large group a concrete opportunity to demonstrate that they have a good basic understanding of horse handling. This is a legal requirement in France. The SRR believes that such knowledge is necessary in the current era and will become increasingly so.
